October 9th 2001

Dear CMG Canada Attendee / Prospect,

It’s hard to believe that we are embarking on yet another CMG Canada year.  Time seems to fly by at an accelerated pace and the years pile upon each other.  Anyway, last year was a lot of fun, and I suspect that this year will top it.  To those of you who are currently members - welcome back; if you are new to us, we look forward to impressing you with a dazzle of great talks.

On behalf of the CMG Canada Board of Directors, let me just say a special thank you to those who contributed to making last year a very successful one, either through your attendance or participation as a speaker.  CMG as a whole continues to be the foremost user group serving the diverse and ever-changing needs of Data Processing Professionals worldwide.  A casual stroll through the various programs offered by many of the Regional groups and the National Conference within just the last year confirms this.  If you have not yet attended a CMG sponsored seminar or major Conference, and you are still serious about keeping abreast or even ahead of this dynamic and challenging industry, then you owe it to yourself to mark a few important dates - to follow - on your calendar.

The Meeting dates for the New Year (2001/2002) are as follows:

·       Tuesday November 6th  2001          - (½ day) with 2 to 3 sessions, and lunch

·       Tuesday February 19th 2002          - (½ day) with 2 to 3 sessions, and lunch

·       Tuesday April 23rd  2002 &             - (2 day seminar) – 8 to 10 sessions

     Wednesday April 24th 2002

Please note that all of the above Seminars will be held at the SAS Executive Briefing Center at SAS Canada Inc., BCE Place, 181 Bay Street, Suite 2220, Toronto, Ontario.

The feedback on the ½ day seminars was most encouraging, so we opted for doing it again.  The most popular opinion being the facilitation of the personal discussion amongst attendees over lunch; almost everyone found this to be of great value.

The program agenda for the upcoming November 6th 2001 Seminar is included in this package.

The current CMG Canada Board now consists of the following:

Even though the Board communicates regularly on many events, which help shape the outcome of the seminars, and topics which are our main offering, we would love to get some feedback from you on anything you deem to be of interest.  You can communicate to any/all of us via the email addresses above.  Other contact information can be found on our website

Speakers and Topics

We strive to focus on the topics that are timely, informative and offer some form of practical methodology with which you, the practitioner can benefit.  The end result is usually personal gains in professional expertise.  To that end, we pursue brand name talent.  Prior speakers were from companies which include: The Royal Bank of Canada, The Bank of Nova Scotia, IBM, EMC Corporation, StorageTek Canada, Candle Corporation, Sun Microsystems,  Microsoft Canada, SAS Institute, and Hewlett-Packard just to mention a few.  Still, the most valuable talks at CMG are those which come from you, the “real” user – and so, we encourage you to participate.

Topic areas usually include:

·       S/390

·       Client Server & Network Computing(UNIX, NT, LINUX etc)

·       Enterprise Systems

·       Performance and Capacity Management

Membership

Membership information is included in this package, and additional membership inquiries can be directed to Don Melton at (416) 878-2697, or via email at meltond@acm.org.  Again, we have been able to hold our membership fees to $100 per individual and $350 for a Corporate membership (unlimited number of attendees per Seminar).  I would like to ask that you personally circulate the mailing to all other individuals within your organization that might be interested in CMG Canada.

Annual General Meeting

The February meeting will include as one of its sessions (a short one), our annual general meeting.  This is the official notification of it and I look forward to seeing you there as we conduct some important and necessary business of the organization.

As usual, I have taken the liberty of including a few statements about the purpose and mission of CMG, so that it is easier to share this valuable affiliation with a colleague or friend.  It is quite common for people to circulate into and out of the sphere of applicability of CMG, and I certainly want to encourage those of you who felt that you have drifted out to acquaint your successor with the purpose of CMG.  Of course, those of you to whom CMG is still largely applicable, let me continue to extend my warmest and sincerest welcome to you.  It has been remarked several times, by many “CMG long timers”, that the most valuable affiliation of CMG lies in its membership!!

What is CMG?

Globally, CMG is one of the most influential organizations in the data processing industry.  Its purpose as defined in the overall charter statement  includes the provision of:

·         extensive introductory education for new professionals.

·         information on emerging technology as well as methodologies for existing performance professionals.

·         forums on the exchange of information, promotion of new ideas, and discussions of management information requirements.

·         focus on practical applications and results oriented methodologies.

·         encouragement for educational institutions to focus on the IT curriculum.

Who are CMG’s Members and Leaders?

CMG members are industry professionals concerned with the performance planning and management of computer systems, in all aspects of the industry.  CMG is led by people like you who take up responsibilities as officers and directors, volunteering their time, effort, professional expertise, and their friendship.  The main International CMG will be held this year in Anaheim, California during December 2nd through 7th at the Anaheim Convention Centre.  Full information, including the preliminary agenda can be obtained on the website address www.cmg.org.  Visit it today!!

The CMG Canada website (shared with CMG) regions.cmg.org/regions/cacmg/index.html is kept current by Kevin Martin and I encourage you to visit it to keep informed about all of CMG Canada’s events and updates.  Your suggestions, comments and concerns are always welcomed.  I can be contacted at (800) 495-3362 x2727 or via email at “mungal_tony@emc.com”.  I look forward to seeing you at all three of these seminars in Toronto.

Welcome to yet another exciting CMG Canada year.

Respectfully,
